My grandmother in the 1930's.

My maternal grandmother Greta has probably been the person who has influenced me the most when it comes to sewing. She was all her life a very snappy dresser. My Mum has let me scan and post pictures of my grandmother and even though the pictures are small (I tweaked them a bit to make them larger) I still think they are marvelous little peaks into her life and her wardrobe. The pictures in this post are almost all of them from the 1930’s, when my grandmother was in her twenties, she was born in 1913. I think they prove that even a working class girl, who made her wardrobe with a small budget, could with fantasy and ability to sew, make a wonderful wardrobe.

1921. My grandmother, her mother Gerda and baby brother Hans and her father Sigurd.

I think she is barely out of her teens here. I love the dress, which looks to be very early 30’s.

I can really see how much my Mum resembles her, here. And I can see somewhat of my grandmother's smile in my own.

She worked various shops before her marriage, her she is at her work at a dairy.

Being fashion conscious she, of course, wore trousers for leisure wear. And I so want that bag!

I think she looks great here- I wish I knew the colours.

In fact, I think she and her friends looks great.

New Years Eve. I wish I could see more details, but I love the flowers at the neckline.

I have one more picture from the 30’s to show, but when I looked at it I realized that the blouse my grandmother is wearing is one that I inherited from her. I need to unpack it and take a picture so I can show it together with the old photo.

She was a lovely woman! I want each and every one of the outfits she and her friends are wearing in that photo! Thanks so much for sharing these :)

Have you ever seen this blog? http://momstyleicons.blogspot.com/ Many of the pics are much more recent, but it's still very cool to see how daughters and granddaughters honor moms' and grandmom's style!

wow, fantastic! Love these photos! They really are gorgeous outfits. Love that photo with the trousers, when they're larking about... off on a day trip or picnic maybe? Looks like the man is holding a bottle of wine!

Rowenna: She was! I just talked with my Mum and she told me grandmother spent every single penny, apart from rent and food, on clothes. Her best friend, who she lived with, used to tell her off for that. :)

No, new blog to me, but I shall check it out. Thanks!

Tickety: I'm glad you enjoyed them!

Madame Berg: Thank you!

paisleyapron: Yes, she was fun and fun-loving She adored dancing and could do the charleston.

Lina Sofia: Glad you like them! I'm sur eit was a picnic or similar, but I'm also sure the bottle doesn't contain wine. My grandmother was a complete teetotaller and one of her less charming qualities was her inability to accept that other may indulge. She simply wouldn't have gone on a picnic where wine was served. :)

Men ack! For modet måste man även trotsa Gud! =P Eller i alla fall sina föräldrar...

She is beautiful.
And she looks like one of those out there women.

Lady Augusta: Tack! Vilken historia!

Juliet: Thank you! She was a person with a good appetite on life. :)

My grandmother taught me to sew also. I have very fond memories of she and I sitting at her old Singer sewing machine when I was a child.

Gorgeous! I particularly love her trench coat in the dairy picture (so timeless!), and the one with her and her friends - the dress & sweater with the asymmetrical buttons are just fabulous. She does have a beautiful smile, as do you!

Couture Allure: Yes, it's nice to have those memories!

Sari: Yes, I like that one too!

Dreasmtress: Yeah, I want that one! And thank you! :)
