Late 19th century masquerade costumes

I posted the clover costume in my last post, but I thought it would be nice with the whole series. These images have been living on my hard drive for some eight years, so I have no clue where I once got them. They are lovely, though and I love that you can see the back too.

I have always been fond of 19th century versions of the 18th century.

  1. They are wonderful!
Fun fact: Last year, I went to Kungliga Biblioteket to look at ca 1912 fashion magazines. In one of them, they had a 18th century costume theme. One pattern (that you could purchase at that time) was for a Pierrot that, from the pictures, was goddamn accurate looking!

  2. Oh my gosh! Not only are these marvelous, but the airship costume is the most steampunky dress I've ever seen! I'm going to post a linky and a comment on my blog right now!

  3. Madame Berg: That sounds wonderful! I almost bought a 1940's pattern for a 18th century gown awhile ago- not so accurate, I think. :)

Rhissanna: I have been thinking that the Ballons would suit to Steampunk too. :)

  4. Lovely! I'd wear one of these costumes in an instant! Except perhaps Hortensia--the, erm, floral arrangement made me look twice.

PS--I have something for you on my blog :) Cause you're awesome.

  5. Rowenna. Well, perhaps not that one... :)

And I haven't thank you yet! Thank you! You are so sweet!

  6. Oh my goodness! These illustrations are marvelous, what a dream it would be to actually be able to go to a masquerade in any of these costumes - "L'etole d'or", the Golden Star, is my favorite!

  7. Emily & Gracie: They are just wonderful! Unforunately my costume didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but I may re-do it one of these days!
