It's good to at least be able to recognize the reference if it would pop up elsewhere.

I found it in WorldCat BTW, there it says the year is 2013. Seems there are copies one library each in Germany and England.

Re the Swedish connection, I think your theory about Carl XII sounded plausible, even if it would be hard to prove.Anna-Carinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05135589709144066670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7580595753456307919.post-70163436886780521552016-07-30T11:21:22.938+02:002016-07-30T11:21:22.938+02:00Anna-Carin: Not so much out of print as only avail...Anna-Carin: Not so much out of print as only available for researchers. It's called "Kniha krejčovských střihů" and the author is Martin Simska, I don't know the year. It's a collection of pattern originally printed in the 16th-18th century.

While I would love to write something more professional, I'm afraid there isn't all that much information to go for. While it seems quite likely that the patterns really are Swedish originally, there really aren't any proofs for that, apart from being published in 1712 under that name.Isishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09380497568603304818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7580595753456307919.post-35493098156185339122016-07-26T12:48:01.489+02:002016-07-26T12:48:01.489+02:00For some reason, interesting books etc are often o...For some reason, interesting books etc are often out of print... :-( Perhaps you can share the name of the publication, year and so on, that might help people locate it?

Or do you plan to publish an article about this? That would be great; I imagine that Garde Robe (www.garderobe.se) would be highly interested. Surely it must be the oldest Swedish pattern in existence, and while your blog has a big audience I think this is great discovery that should be documented for posterity in Swedish costume literature!

Anna-Carinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05135589709144066670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7580595753456307919.post-2654451456505162582016-07-26T11:14:52.370+02:002016-07-26T11:14:52.370+02:00A Historical Lady: Thank you!A Historical Lady: Thank you!Isishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09380497568603304818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7580595753456307919.post-3804309370636036422016-07-26T11:13:57.135+02:002016-07-26T11:13:57.135+02:00Anna-Carin: Thank you! That's a very interesting gown, with a mantua look yet a quite different cut compared to the published patterns.

Of course I'm very intrigued by the 1712 diagrams you mention. Is there any way I could lay hands on copies/photos/etc?Anna-Carinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05135589709144066670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7580595753456307919.post-28995348730797937792016-07-25T18:22:17.017+02:002016-07-25T18:22:17.017+02:00Lovely gown--and fascinating history, too!Lovely gown--and fascinating history, too!Rowennahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09757364614589686606noreply@blogger.com
